JOYCE SHUPE KULL FAGO, ChM, DMA (Organ performance, University of Colorado), teaches organ at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, as well as privately, and presents lectures and workshops. Her study of J. S. Bach’s Clavierübung, Part III, was awarded the Chancellor’s Dissertation Award in the Arts and Humanities in 1984 by CU.
She was recently appointed Organist at First Presbyterian Church, Boulder. Dr. Kull has served as organist-choirmaster throughout the U.S., notably as interim director of music and organist at Saint John’s Cathedral, Denver. An active performer, she has appeared in the Denver and Boulder Bach Festivals, and has published articles in The American Organist on Bach Performance, American Guild of Organists certification, and pedagogical topics.. In 2008, she was elected American Guild or Organists National Councillor for Education, serving until July 1, 2014. Dr. Kull will present a workshop on composing descants at the AGO National Convention in Houston in June 2016.
As a composer Dr. Kull has written sets of Psalm Refrains and Psalm Tones for the liturgical year, along with anthems and organ works on hymn tunes. Her new organ hymn prelude was performed at the 2016 AGO Convention and published in the convention collection by Selah Publishers. She is a member of the new Rocky Mountain Composers group.
